Help select the Greenville Symphony’s new Music Director

From now until March, you could help make Greenville music history. The Greenville Symphony is in the process of selecting its new Music Director, and you’re invited to weigh in.
Six conductors — selected from a pool of 160 applicants from around the world — will lead unique concerts throughout the 2023-2024 season. Think of the shows like public “auditions” where each guest conductor will bring their all as they vie to be Edvard Tchivzhel’s successor in front of a live audience (psst... that’s you).
During each program, guests will get a snapshot of what to expect from the finalist if they become Music Director. Think: Curated music that’s a reflection of the conductors’ various musical perspectives.
John Devlin is currently the Music Director of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra in West Virginia.

In addition to rehearsing and performing with the Symphony, the finalists will spend a week in Greenville to get a feel for the energy and excitement of our city. They’ll explore, meet with community members, and work with students at local schools.
Without further ado, let’s meet the finalists + their blockbuster soloists:
All shows will be in Peace Concert Hall, and tickets start at just $20. If you subscribe to all of the guest conductors’ concerts, you’ll have the chance to weigh in on the final decision.

Development
🥤 The future tastes like Pepsi
Greenville’s former Pepsi-Cola plant is transforming into a start-up community

That’s what I like. Greenville’s Pepsi-Cola plant, located at 751 State Park Rd., will transform into a start-up community, serving as a “hub for entrepreneurs and business start-ups.”
Tenants (~40% business start-ups and ~60% freelancers + entrepreneurs — per Flywheel Founding Partner Peter Marsh) will be selected to complement the “mission of the hub.”
The Pepsi-Cola plant redevelopment is phase one of an “innovation district” with the potential to cover ~20 acres when the entire project is complete. Future projects could include a residential space, an open air shed with food vendors, and a stage.
I’m not going to lie. When I was looking at the weather forecast for this week I audibly said “you’ve got to be kidding.” How do you beat the heat in Greenville? Let us know your cool-down tips.
