A hyper-local new concept

A food truck park is coming to Simpsonville this fall

Scuffletown Food Truck Park — a new outdoor dining concept with a focus on community — will feature local bites, local brews, and fun for all ages when it opens in Simpsonville this fall at 206 Ladean Ct., behind the IHOP on Fairview Road.

The inspiration

Founder Justin Holck — an Air Force veteran and firefighter — was stationed in Germany and enjoyed the family-centered environment he found at restaurants and breweries. He especially loved his experience at food truck parks with the outdoor eating atmosphere and food variety.

“The biggest thing for us is the sense of community it brought,” he explained. “At a traditional restaurant you don’t really talk to the people around you, but a food truck park changes that and opens it up for the community to have conversations and dialogue.”

So Justin set out to recreate that experience in Greenville, and Scuffletown Food Truck Park was born.

The bites

There’s room for six food trucks on the lot with an emphasis on local variety with these businesses announced so far:
There’s more where that came from. Stay tuned on Instagram for future food truck announcements.

The brews

A 21-tap self-serve beer wall will be inside a 1,000-sqft retail building. Sticking with the same hyperlocal theme, all brews will come from Upstate breweries.

If beer isn’t your thing, wine, ciders, seltzers + non-alcoholic drinks will also be available for purchase.

The entertainment

Across from the retail building, a covered pavilion will house a 120-inch screen with a laser projector. Justin says he hopes to host crowds for sporting events + family movie nights.

There’s also plans for a fenced-in playground with a 20x20-ft sandbox and two climbing structures, perfect for letting the kids run around.

Follow @scuffletown_food_trucks on Instagram to track the progress, with construction updates from Justin posted regularly.

Clemson University students at the International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) in Greenville developed an autonomous off-road vehicle to speed up the delivery of supplies and to gather real-time data for first responders during natural disasters.

What can the vehicle do?
  • Sense and navigate on unknown terrain using lidars, cameras, and high-accuracy GPS
  • Reach 45 mph
  • Scale 18-inch high obstacles
  • Maneuver 60% grade surfaces (read: handle inclines)
  • Pivot 360 degrees in place in two seconds
In addition to delivering emergency supplies, the vehicle can act as a mobile generator in the event of a power outage.

Click the button below to read more about the innovative project, which took three years to develop as part of Deep Orange — Clemson’s flagship rapid vehicle prototype program.
