Juneteenth is coming up on Monday, June 19 — and before the federal holiday is here, Juneteenth GVL Inc. is hosting a variety of events to engage the community and commemorate the legacy of Black Americans.
This will be Juneteenth GVL Inc.'s second year of organizing community events for Juneteenth. Last year’s three-day celebration raised $5,000 in educational sponsorships + $20,000 for non-profits.
Here’s a look at the events on the docket.
Freedom Ride | Saturday, June 10 | 4 p.m. | 1601 Piedmont Hwy. | Free admission, $20 for show registration | Trophies including “Best Street Bike” and “Best Classic Car” will be awarded at this bike, car, and truck show — register to compete.
Juneteenth Job Fair | Thursday, June 15 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m. | 225 S. Pleasantburg Dr. | Free | Talk to employers including BMW, FedEx, and ThermoKing at this SC Works-sponsored event.
Black Economic Mobility Summit | Thursday, June 15 | 9 a.m.-3 p.m. | Greenville Convention Center | Free | Join REEM GVL’s summit to talk investing, home owning, and supporting young Black entrepreneurs with business leaders.
Expect singing, dancing, and artist performances at this year’s Mega Fest.
Juneteenth GVL Gala — The Royal Gala | Friday, June 16 | 7 p.m.-12 a.m. | Greenville Convention Center | $100 per person, $1,000 per table | This black tie affair features dining, dancing, and an auction benefiting the Mr. and Miss Juneteenth scholarship program.

Grab your walking shoes, because Laurens County completed work on a 2-mile loop of the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail.
