Greenville 101: Our guide to becoming a Greenvillian
Picture this: You just moved to Greenville, SC and you need some help with the practicalities of life (we can’t just sit back and sip our Methodical Coffee all day, unfortunately). That’s where we come in.
Keep reading for Greenvillian 101, our guide to all things Greenville citizenship.
The essentials
Driver’s licenses
New residents in need of a Greenville driver’s license will need to provide proof of identity, citizen status, and two documents confirming your residential address.
Find your nearest SCDMV office and check wait times.
Healthcare
Establishing yourself with a primary care provider is one of those things you’ll be glad you did when you need one. Use Prisma Health’s Find a Doctor tool. Pro tip: Websites like DocSpot also filter physicians by location, patient reviews, insurance, language, and more.
Library card registration
If you think libraries are only for renting the occasional book, think again. Register for a library card at your nearest Greenville County Library branch to take advantage of:
Genealogy services
Events
eBooks, music, and movies
Online databases
Private meeting spaces for groups

The ultimate Greenvillian initiation
Having a SC driver’s license and an 864 area code may qualify you on paper, but you’re not officially a Greenvillian until you’ve taken part in some local fun that is only found in our city.

This April, we ran a poetry contest to celebrate National Poetry Month. We challenged you, our readers, to craft a poem using only the words that appeared in one of our newsletters (here are the original contest guidelines if you want to give it a try).
Turns out, you’re all poets and we didn’t even know it. We were beyond thrilled to read the original, creative, and awe-inspiring poems Greenvillians created from our newsletter copy.
Here’s a sneak peek at our finalists:
“Where good is endangered” by Karolina Zapal
“Girl Dad” by Andy Coe
“Refreshing” by Maygen Bazemore
“You, Now” by Mimi Jones
“Greenville, Our Happy Beautiful Home” by Melissa Moore
Click the button below to read each of the finalists’ poems, and don’t forget to vote for your favorite in the Asked section below.

From the editor
Last night, I kicked off my euphoria Spring Fest itinerary with the In The Stars dinner. I can’t think of many meals that top the work of Michelin-starred Chef Matt Baker (of 1-star Gravitas in DC) and executive chef Haydn Shaak (of Restaurant 17 in Travelers Rest). Make sure you’re following us on Instagram as we continue Spring Fest festivities into the weekend.
