59. That’s how many films have been selected to be screened at the eighth annual Reedy Reels Film Festival, presented by Piedmont Natural Gas. This year’s festival received a record 143 submissions.
The festival
Running Friday, Feb. 17-Sunday, Feb. 19 at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre (153 Augusta St.), the festival will feature screenings of short films, documentaries, and features in a variety of genres and styles.
In addition to the screenings, the festival will host filmmakers on site for post-screening Q+A sessions. Other festival events throughout the weekend include a Friday night reception, Saturday happy hour, and Sunday awards ceremony reception — stay tuned for a formal schedule.
The films
This year’s films will be shown in multiple sessions, including one dedicated to student films and one dedicated to films made through Indie Grants, an SC-based program that provides production grants for narrative short film projects — some of which have been filmed in the Upstate.

Scooter’s Coffee, a drive-thru beverage franchise, is opening a location at 2027 Wade Hampton Blvd. next to Huey Magoo’s. Menu items include hot and cold coffee drinks, smoothies and blenders (similar to a Starbucks Frappuccino), and breakfast items. We’ll share an opening date as we learn more. ☕

Proterra, an electric vehicle (EV) technology manufacturer headquartered in CA, produced its first Powered EV battery at its Powered 1 battery manufacturing plant in Greer (1601 Poplar Dr. Ext., Greer). Calling all aspiring DJs. The Peace Centeris offering “The Art of DJing” — a four-part course taught by the Upstate’s DJ Sha. The course will teach students how to operate the latest professional equipment and produce a 25 to 30-minute recorded mix or live performance.
