Is one of anyone else’s New Year’s resolutions to up their cooking game? Same. 🙋‍♀️

Hey, GVL. It’s Grace here. Greenville Technical College’s new Truist Culinary and Hospitality Innovation Center at Poe West offers a wide array of hands-on and demo classes, and I had the chance to check out one of them. Here’s what I did and how you can #TryThis. 👇

Experience:

I attended the Fresh Pasta: Techniques and Traditions demo + tasting class. Basically, for two hours I got to watch a professional chef make several homemade pasta dishes, and taste them all at CHI. 🍝

The 11,000-sqft., state-of-the-art facility boasts 2 kitchens (including a teaching kitchen for hands-on training + a studio kitchen for demonstration and tasting classes), a service and mixology lab, two fully-equipped classrooms, and high-end tools of the trade, such as a programmable combination oven.

We spent our time in the culinary studio, which has stadium-style seating + is set up with large TV screens so you can make sure you see everything that is going on. It’s all in the details with making pasta.

We got to watch Chef Bill make a handful of different types of pasta + taste them all – which was obviously the best part. In this two hour class, he taught us everything from making the dough to creating sauces. Our menu for the class consisted of a regular pasta dough, spinach pasta dough + semolina pasta dough, and we tried a marinara sauce, bolognese sauce + a garlic parmesan cream sauce.

This particular class was $45. Demonstration and tasting classes range from $35 to $45 per person and run 90 minutes to two hours. Hands-on classes range from $68 to $119 per person and run 3 to 4 hours. Wanting to book a class for yourself? Check out all of the classes coming up soon here.

What not to miss:

The location – Poe West. The new development is a great place to spend time in the Village of West Greenville. It’s not only home to CHI, but also a new brewery – Carolina Bauenerhaus, Unlocked Coffee Roasters, The Junkyard, and more. You can check out all that Poe West has to offer here.

What we’re still talking about:

Um...how delicious it was. Everything we got to taste was great, and while I might not be a new fresh pasta-making expert, the class did make me feel comfortable enough to want to try it on my own. I also learned that just olive oil and red pepper flakes can be a simple + delicious pasta “sauce.”
