Announced ○ South Carolina was selected to participate in a new national program to change child welfare systems. The first-of-its-kind program, called Thriving Families, Safer Children: A National Commitment to Well-Being, is being implemented in four states. (Midlands Biz)

A couple in South Carolina, who met in the frozen food aisle at Trader Joe’s, tied the knot at the grocery store in Columbia with the store’s employees cheering them on every step down the (grocery) isle. State ○ SCDNR has confirmed eight more sightings of the black and white tegu lizard – a large lizard that is not native to South Carolinabut can be found in Georgia + Florida. The reptile was first seen in Lexington (right outside of Columbia) in August. Five of the lizards have been removed from the wild, according to the department. SCDNR is asking anyone who thinks they spot a black and white tegu lizard to email a photo, location and date + time the reptile was seen, as they can have a negative impact on native wildlife. 🦎 (WCSC)

○ DHEC is implementing new updates from the CDC for tracking + reporting cases of the coronavirus. The three most notable changes are that a positive antibody test is not classified as a probable case, a positive antigen test is classified as probable case, and that a new “suspect case” category was created for positive antibody or antigen tests from autopsy specimens not previously identified as a case.
