How Surcee is making it easier to shop local (without leaving home)

A new way to shop (and give) small is coming to Greenville | Photo provided

Get excited, GVL. Something’s coming that’s about to change the way you shop local. 👀

Remember when we told you about Surcee? The new online platform, developed right here in Greenville by local entrepreneur Allan Symonette, is launching just in time for the holiday season with a brand new focus on shopping local.

Think: A virtual town square full of all your favorite local retailers, aka an online way to discover and shop directly with local merchants. You can get the same convenience of online shopping (we’re not naming names….) with the feel good benefit of supporting your city.

Online shopping has been on the rise for years, so much that the top 18 ecommerce sites were averaging $1 trillion+ in sales in 2019… and then came COVID. As we approach yet another pandemic-tinged holiday season, there are many who will feel more comfortable doing their shopping online. Whether for safety or convenience — or a healthy mix of both — you’ll probably want to go ahead and bookmark Surcee.

Surcee will be up and running in time for holiday gift shopping, and they’re working toward getting more + more local businesses on their site. Here’s where you come in, reader. Surcee has partnered with the Greenville Chamber of Commerce to connect with local merchants, and they want to hear from you, too. Start thinking about your favorite local shops that should absolutely not miss out on being on this new platform… because we’re going to be asking you in just a minute. 💬 Ⓟ

DEVELOPMENT

Q: How does continued growth benefit Greenville?

Dr. Nika White, CEO/President, Nika White Consulting | Photo provided by the City of Greenville

A: Life in a ghost town? Not for us. Attracting new business and residents is the lifeblood of any successful city — and the City of Greenville’s 20-year plan, GVL 2040, approaches growth in a measured and thoughtful way.

Local entrepreneurs agree. “The possibilities here are endless, and we have a plan in place to make sure we keep it that way,” says Dr. Nika White, CEO/President of Nika White Consulting. Ⓟ
