Plus, we're escaping to an alpine village in the US.

Danielle here. One of my favorite things about Valentine’s Day is the pop-up markets and events to help you shop local for your Valentine. I’ll be starting my Saturday at Modal’s market (they had me at Daylight Burritos) before popping over to the Maker’s Collective.

Must Love Dogs: How pets help sell real estate

Slideshow of dogs in their homes.
DYK The National Association of REALTORS® states 66% of households have pets? It’s a fact: People love their four-legged family members. | Photo provided by Joan Herlong & Associates Sotheby’s International Realty
If you’ve moved before, you know the feeling when your new house truly becomes a home: the moment your pup curls up by the fire. 🐶

That’s why Joan Herlong & Associates Sotheby’s International Realty’s photo + video marketing shoots often feature dogs running outside at properties, celebrating milestones at listings, and more: to show home buyers that life in their new home (with their fur babies) can be everything they’re hoping for.

Bonus: It works — Just ask their sellers how quickly (and well) their homes sold.*
WHY MARKETING MATTERS

Plan Ahead
  • Mardi Gras is coming up Tuesday, Feb. 21. Don’t sweat it if you can’t make it down to the bayou. You can celebrate with these Greenville events — 613 miles away from the French Quarter.
Coming Soon
  • Oak and Fire — a new concept from the former Oak Hill Cafe owners — is opening soon on Poinsett Highway. While the restaurant has yet to announce its regular hours, it celebrated its soft opening last weekend and served wood fire oven pizzas and housemade sodas. Follow its Instagram for updates. (The Post and Courier Greenville)
History
  • Scattered across our city are places with stories to tell about Black history in Greenville. You may pass some of these spots on your morning commute to work, or admire them on a jog, but do you know the legacies behind the landmarks? (Greenville Journal)

Great Escapes: Our guide to Leavenworth, WA

Yo-deh-lay-hee-hoo. Do you hear that? The mountains are calling you to the sweetest little alpine village that’s like something from a fairy tale: Leavenworth, Washington.

City Editor Cambrie here. The first time I visited the Bavarian-style town in the Cascade Mountains was to backpack The Enchantments — an experience I will never forget and highly recommend (but definitely go prepared). I later returned for winter visits after hearing how it transforms into a storybook winter wonderland and fell in love with it all over again.
  • Act like a local: Treat yourself to a special, truly unique, multi-course meal showcasing organic, local, and wild-foraged ingredients at Mana Restaurant at the corner of Commercial and Division streets, near the river. Don’t forget to make a reservation.
  • Drink: If you like beer, you’ve come to the right town. Warm up at Bushel & Bee Taproom, where you can choose from two dozen beers and ciders on tap. Dogs are welcome, too.
  • Vrbo: Alpine View Haus on Main, a Bavarian-themed condo for up to four people (~$240/night)*

Psst — check out Floom, an online marketplace that partners with florists that deliver locally. Shop Floom’s selection of special edition Valentine’s Day arrangements.*
Travel
  • Dreaming of a tropical summer vacation? Us too. We’re eyeing this romantic villa with pristine views in Costa Rica and this charming beachfront cottage in St. Kitts. Or maybe we’ll splurge on a trip to Tahiti and stay in this beach house with a private pool.*
Wellness
  • What’s getting us through February: Our humidifiers. We love the Levoit Blue Cool Humidifier for its quiet design, multiple mist levels, and how easy it is to clean. Do your skin (not to mention, your houseplants) a favor and up your home hydration.*
