Ready to go on a trip? Before you do, you should know about TRIP, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport’s new Terminal Roadway Improvement Project.

Kicking off this month and projected to finish in late fall 2024, the project aims to:
  • Improve vehicle traffic flow
  • Reduce congestion
  • Enhance safety for airport visitors

What’s changing?

TRIP will be carried out in three phasesPhase 1 (split into A and B), Phase 2, and Phase 3 (split into A and B). Each is estimated to take between three and 12 months to complete.

Some of the changes include:
  • Phase 1A: Extension of terminal curbside roadway (into Terminal Parkway) to GSP drive, wrapping around Garage B and Daily Parking
  • Phase 2: Reconstruction of existing curbside roadway
  • Phase 3A: Construction of two roundabouts at both intersections of GSP Drive and Aviation Parkway (on either side of the fountain)
Pro tip: Check out GSP’s TRIP timeline for a breakdown of every phase and all the projects to be completed in each.

How will it affect me?

While much of your experience entering and exiting GSP will remain relatively unchanged in the first part of Phase 1, travelers can expect impacts in Phases 1B, 2, and 3, including:
  • Phase 1B: The valet station will move into Garage B.
  • Phase 2: The existing curbside roadway will be closed — traveler pick-up and drop-off will be at the extended roadway (also applies shuttles and ride share services).
  • Phase 3: The terminal curbside will be accessed via the newly extended Terminal Parkway.

How can I prepare?

Given ongoing construction and future changes to traffic flow, there could be unexpected traffic delays. GSP recommends arriving to the airport at least two hours prior to your departure time.

This is just a high-level look at the changes and impacts forthcoming at GSP. Click below for more details on the project and a list of FAQs.

Each year, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed as a federal holiday on the third Monday of January — today, Jan. 16. The theme for this year is “Cultivating a Beloved Community Mindset to Transform Unjust Systems,” according to The King Centera nonprofit founded by MLK’s wife, Coretta Scott King, to continue Dr. King’s legacy.

If you have time to dedicate to our community, here are three local volunteer opportunities:
  • United Way of Greenville County | Find meaningful volunteer opportunities that change lives and move Greenville County forward.
  • Loaves & Fishes | Reduce hunger in Greenville County by volunteering on the rescue route, event committee, or by providing administrative and office support.
  • Mill Village Ministries | Help out this Greenville institution’s collective with food share, farming, and youth programming.
