The People’s Tap (250 Riverplace, Ste. B) officially opens its doors(and taps)tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 7at 12 p.m.
Located just off the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail and the Reedy River, Greenville’s newest taproom is all about giving the people what they love.
Here’s what to know before you go.
Founded in friendship
It was two people and a 10-year friendship that started The People’s Tap. Greenvillians Julia Belcher and Jennifer Lion both dreamed up their taproom four years ago.
The two, who both have experience in the local beverage industry — Jen worked at Double Stamp Brewery and Julia worked at The Eighth State Brewing Company — wanted to offer a space where everyone can be comfortable, whether they’re stopping in before a show at the Peace Center or coming off a bike ride from the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail.
For the people
Co-owner Julia says the focus of The People’s Tap is engagement, and the beers it offers are based on votes. At any point, the menu could feature local breweries like Pangaea Brewing Co. and Southernside Brewing Co., regional breweries, and global names like Michelob Ultra.
You’ll be able to vote up or down whether or not you liked what you ordered and will see the results live on a large screen behind the bar. Votes determine which beers stay, and which go to make room for more. Non-beer drinkers will find a variety of wines.
Feed the people
While the taproom won’t offer food options in-house, food delivery from Papi’s Tacos and The Lazy Goat will be available, and local food businesses like basta. bakery will be popping up from time to time.
Are you a food biz interested in popping up at The People’s Tap? Let Jen and Julia know.
