Greenville’s redistricting explained

The City of Greenville, SC is redistricting. Here’s what that means.

The City of Greenville is redistricting + now is the time for you to give leaders your feedback on the proposed changes. It’s a process that’s been underway for almost a year, so here’s what you need to know.

How does this affect you?

Your district affects who represents you on Greenville City Council.

If you live within the city limits, specifically in one of the shaded areas on the map above, your district will change if this map is approved.

The biggest areas of change to note: Hollingsworth Park, along Augusta Road, and neighborhoods south of I-85 and Laurens Road.

Why are these districts changing?

When the Census shows a city’s population has increased or decreased in the last decade, the city may have to redistrict to equalize population among electoral districts.

Greenville’s population increased by 12,000+ people or 22% from 2010 to 2020. In District Four alone, the population increased 52.73%.

What’s next?

This Thursday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. you can provide public comment about the new proposed district lines at the Nicholtown Community Center (112 Rebecca St.).

Can’t make it to the meeting but still want your voice heard? You can submit comments online.

Once public comment wraps up, a map will be presented for final approval between mid-December and January 2023.

Since City leadership passed a resolution in January 2022 saying the entire process should be complete ahead of the March 2023 City Council filing deadline, you’ll see these changes in place by the next city election in November 2023.

Enhanced virtual doctor’s visit with portable TytoCare device

TytoCare-physician-photo provided by Prisma Health.jpg
GVLtoday team member Chloe here. 👋 Are anyone else’s allergies acting up? After sneezing approximately 2,385 times this week, I started to feel an earache coming on. I wasn’t feeling up to going out, so, luckily, I had the very timely opportunity to do an at-home, virtual visit with a Prisma Health doctor but with the added technical support from a little handheld device called TytoCare.

What we tried (with pricing):

Here’s how it went:
  1. Upon connecting my TytoCare Medical Exam Kit ($179) to wifi, I synced it with my iPad + MyChart account.
  2. I watched a quick tutorial on how to use the device directly on my iPad (read: super easy).
  3. At my scheduled virtual visit time with Dr. Telicia Allen, MD, a Prisma Health family medicine specialist based in Simpsonville, I joined the video visit through the MyChart app.
  4. Here’s where things got interesting. After hearing about my symptoms, she had me attach the tongue depressor and said say "ahhhh.”
