Greenville Federal Credit Union’s Greenville High School Branch
Students hold different jobs, like these tellers, during lunch periods. | Photo by GVLtoday
We dusted off our backpacks and headed back to school this fall to take a first-hand look at The Branch at Greenville High — a one-of-a-kind program where students are given in-depth training to operate a fully-functioning Greenville Federal Credit Union branch inside their school. (Yeah — impressive.)
What we tried:
We had a chance to watch the bank in action during lunch, with all of the credit union’s key roles filled by students:
New member specialists help students get signed up for the credit union.
An auditor oversees the accuracy and completeness of the operation’s records.
Learn more about the student’s roles, including the ways they build financial literacy among their peers and the skills they take with them once they finish in the program below.*
No. 6. That’s what Greenville ranks on Condé Nast Traveler’s list, “The Best Cities in the US: 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards.” The list lauds local spots like Vault & Vator, Jianna, Falls Park, and the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail.
Coming Soon
It’s corn (dogs). Corndog by Mr. Cow is opening at the Haywood Mall food court in November. The Korean corn dogs — K-Corndogs for short — are made with sausage and mozzarella cheese, coated in sweet flour + rolled in toppings. We can’t imagine a more beautiful thing.
Here they grow again. Sully’s Steamers, a bagel franchise specializing in steamed bagels, announced it’s opening a new location in Greenville’s Eastside. The location + opening date are yet to be determined. 🥯
Traffic
The SCDOT will switch all southbound lanes of traffic on I-85 after the Pelham Road exit to the new Rocky Creek Bridge by the end of the week, Fri., Oct. 7. There will still be three lanes of traffic in each direction as contractors continue lane expansion work for at least a year. 🚧 (WYFF 4)
