Greenville County Schools broke ground on its Career and Technical Education (CTE) Innovation Center on the Roper Mountain Science Center campus this week.
The $12.7 million facility — opening in August 2023 — will house classrooms and labs designed to give STEM (science, technology, engineering + math) students the opportunity to problem-solve and collaborate in a real-world setting. Equipment will also align with the technology used in the industries students are studying.
The Innovation Center will feature five programs:
Emerging automotive research — the first program of its kind in SC
Aerospace technology
Cybersecurity + networking
Clean energy technology
Automation robotics
Whether students plan to attend a two-year program at a technical college or a four-year university — the goal is to give them the knowledge and skills to be successful in their higher education + a future STEM career like engineering, programming, aviation, IT, and more.
