You are go for launch.” Those were the words Charlie Blackwell-Thompson spoke as Artemis II — the most powerful rocket NASA has ever launched — took off from the Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday, April 1. Born and raised in Gaffney before graduating from Clemson with a Computer Engineering degree in 1988, she became the first woman to serve as Launch Director for NASA in 2016.

GVL Poetry Trail wants to turn everyday spots — like public spaces, local businesses, and parks — into an interactive poetry experience.

But they need your help. Locals get to write the pieces along the trail. Submit original work by Wednesday, April 15, with winning pieces earning cash prizes, public display, and live readings during Artisphere weekend.

Led by Wits End Poetry, the project is a celebration of the organization’s 25th anniversary, which is coming up in 2027. It’s looking for poems about hyperlocal nature, food, sports, history, culture — all rooted in what makes Greenville Greenville.

“We want the poetry to drive some of the locations, but we do know that the first stops will be along Main Street in Downtown Greenville and around Heritage Green,” the project specified.
