The City of Greenville is looking ahead – 20 years. They’re currently developing GVL2040, a comprehensive plan that will serve as a guide for future decision-making using input + recommendations from the community.

Think of it like a citywide conversation about the future of our town. The public is encouraged to provide feedback on a range of topics (anything from housing + economic development to parks and cultural resources). That feedback, combined with technical analysis, will emerge into a comprehensive plan that will guide city officials, staff + board members as they make decisions regarding the preservation, revitalization and growth of our city.

So, how does this affect you? If you live, work, or own a business in the City of Greenville (population ~68,219), you’re considered a stakeholder in the plan. Why? The plan + the actions taken using it stand to impact you. Ultimately, GVL2040 intends to positively impact quality of life across all segments of the community.

Greenville County (population ~506,837) has a similar comprehensive plan in the works called Plan Greenville County. This 10-year guide, also implementing community feedback, targets nine main elements: population, economic development, natural resources, cultural resources, community facilities, housing, land use, transportation, and priority investments in public infrastructure and facilities. Greenville County is holding community meetings this summer where you can provide feedback. If you can’t make a meeting – you can submit your input online here.

The first GVL2040 public survey, available here, is open now-Mon., July 29. This survey is designed to identify community issues + priorities. There will be many opportunities to contribute to GVL2040, but if you’re as excited about this plan as we are, the survey is a great way to start getting involved.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the progress of both plans – but for now, mark your calendars. On August 7, the GVL2040 project team from czb, Ingalls Planning & Design (IPD) + the steering committee will be facilitating the first public open house about the comprehensive plan.

One last note – our team just completed the survey and it only took 10 minutes. So while you’re waiting on your coffee to brew, click the link below.

Let’s see how many responses we can get - ready, set, survey.
