This piece is a part of our new Q+A series.

We may have just wrapped up Women’s History Month, but we still want to highlight a local lady bringing something new to the health + wellness scene in Greenville coming late May.

Currie Gossett’s boutique fitness studio, C.O.R.E grow strong, will soon be moving from its Washington Street location to Overbrook Village (1501 E. North St.).

What is your name, title, and 3-5 things you want people to know about you?

My name is Currie Gossett and I own C.O.R.E. grow strong in downtown Greenville. What I want people to know about me — I am so passionate about what I want to deliver to the Greenville health and wellness scene, and can’t wait to meet everyone who comes on this journey with us. I’ve always thought of myself as an entrepreneur, but it has brought me great joy watching others become more aware of their health and how their bodies move. This “communal hub of wellness” that I’ve been striving to build has become so much more about our community than my own dreams, and I am so grateful for that.

If you’re originally from Greenville, why have you stayed here? If you’re not, what brought you here?

I am originally from Greenville, but I left for college in 1999 and didn’t move back home until the summer of 2018. My family has always been here, and I knew I wanted to put this business concept here, whether I lived here or not. The uniqueness and character that Greenville has grown into is something that makes me extra proud to call “home.”

Tell us some background behind your new biz. What are you most excited about?

C.O.R.E. stands for Confidence. Optimism. Resilience. Energy. Our goal is to help people feel like the best versions of themselves, even if just a tiny bit, every time they walk out of our doors. This concept is going on a 6 year dream at this point, and has already survived several bumps in the road. I am most excited about creating a special place where people not only connect to the community, but more importantly, to themselves and their own hearts.

What made you decide to choose the location that you did?

Overbrook Village is a newly renovated bottling facility from the 40s. It’s great to have the physical space and the neighboring tenants as well. I love being in a historic neighborhood that’s growing, while also being close to the interstate, downtown, and several other close-by neighborhoods. Most importantly, we will have lots of parking!!!

Tell us why this will be different than/unique from other wellness spaces?

Greenville has a lot of really great studios, gyms, and training centers. What we are building is really special. Not only are we combining several concepts into one convenient space, we are also focusing more on the mind-body connection through movement. We can all benefit from slowing down, breathing, and connecting to ourselves more often. Our space will be light and bright, very open and organic, and we hope it will become a center for community and connection on all levels.

Any need-to-know details we should share to get readers excited?

Lots of details! We are combining the best of boutique fitness in one space. We are keeping all of our designer retail, and the space is set up to come shop whether you’re working out or not. We’re expanding our plant-based market, selling local juices, snacks, and grab and go items. We will have a full Reformer Pilates studio downstairs for group classes, and a big, open studio upstairs for Pilates mat work, Yoga, Mediation + Breathwork, TRX, and Functional training. We will also have a private room for dedicated Pilates lessons on the equipment. Think community first, a place to completely be yourself, encouragement and support from amazing instructors, while benefiting from class packages and membership options that would normally be spread across multiple studios and locations.

What life advice or epiphany would you share with others that you’re thankful you learned?

There are very few things in life that are permanent, and I’ve learned to just truly be myself. I’ve learned that it’s not worth spending energy or worry on what others think or what “could have been.” I try to live as much in the present as I can and make time for my own self-care. (I could still use a lot more of that!)

Name 3-5 other local leaders/influencers/movers + shakers you’re watching.

My all-time favorite mentor and joy guru is Nicole Meline. She’s such an inspiration and light of a friend in my life. I also love Anne Smith’s local podcast, But Not All at Once, and Sallie Holder is a local business coach who is making big moves. Dr. Mary Brittain Blankenship at Spruce MD is someone I highly admire, and I always love watching fellow local retailers, Twill, Monkee’s of the West End and Augusta Twenty.

Convince a friend to move to Greenville in 15 words or less. Go.

What local dish do you crave + rave about?

Anything from our local farm to table restaurants, Topsoil, The Anchorage, Fork and Plough. A good decaf oat milk latte from Methodical Coffee, and the “Freckle” from SunBelly Café. Amazing!
