The wait is nearly over, GVL. Group Therapy, Greenville’s only pub and playground, is set to open Fri., June 17.

The team has been busy bringing all of its concepts to life, from its games like 18-hole mini golf course (with some familiar themes) to its large mascot.

We got a sneak peek of how the space has come together since we first revealed plans last November.

Wacky mini golf course

Each of the 18 holes on the mini golf course feature themes you may recognize, from Disney Pixar’s Toy Story to Jurassic Park to Game of Thrones.

Harold

Let’s address the elephant in the room: Group Therapy’s mascot, Harold. At 7+ ft tall, Harold will sit in the front of Group Therapy and serve as the ultimate photo prop or listening ear.

Join the team

There’s still some work to be done to bring this pub and playground to the finish line, and that includes hiring a team for everything from driving the drink cart to play testing the mini golf courses.

If you or someone you know is interested in working at Group Therapy, attend the hiring event from Tues., May 17-Wed., May 18 + Fri., May 20-Sat., May 21 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2-5 p.m.

What’s next?

Although you’ll have to wait until June to get your pub and play on, Group Therapy is now accepting online reservations and event + team building bookings.

An early look inside

Remember when we shared news a couple months ago of Group Therapy Pub & Playground coming to Greenville? Well, we have some exciting updates.

Last week, we got the chance to meet owner Matthew Hubbard for a tour + future look of the space — which, at 19,000 sqft, is the biggest retail space in downtown Greenville, says Matthew.

A bar + restaurant

Able to seat 125 people, this is where you’ll order pub-style bites and wacky cocktails. Play bingo + trivia, or turn your seat towards the main stage at the front for comedy and live music.

A self-serving beer tap area

Pour up your favorite brew from 30 local taps and get your play on in the playground area.

An axe-throwing “lodge”

Here, you’ll get your safety briefing, but can also relax by the “fire”. Each of the lanes will feature, besides the axe-throwing boards, TVs — so you never have to miss a play during football season.

A Pro Shop + mini golf course

Check out your gaming equipment in the Pro Shop, like golf clubs for the 18-hole putt putt golf course. Buckle up, *fore* you’re not ready for what’s in store throughout the course (the themes will have you starstruck).

A tabletop + court games area

Here you’ll find the curling lanes, with synthetic ice that feels like the real thing, and ping pong tables. Booths will line the walls and the windows in between back up to the bar for service.

Bonus: yard games

While not technically “inside” the building space, there will be a variety of outdoor games in Camperdown Plaza. Grab a drink inside and head out the glass garage door at the front to those games.

Group Therapy plans to open with reservations in the beginning of 2022.
