Hey Greenvillians, Kyle + Danielle here. Between the two of us, we get the privilege of sharing local news, events, and conversations with 50,000+ readers in GVL, daily — here, and on our socials.
After being around for a while, we thought we should formally introduce ourselves. Consider this us going in for a fist bump, then switching to a handshake, then settling on a hug.
Meet Kyle 🙋♀️
Q: Describe your perfect day in GVL in the length of a Tweet (240 characters).
A: A summer morning at the TD Saturday Market with iced coffee from Methodical Coffee and fresh flowers in hand. An afternoon bike ride up the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail with my husband + pup in tow. Finishing the day with friends, wine, and a Tommy pizza at Sidewall.
Q: You’re ordering a drink from a Greenville coffee shop or bar: What’s in it?
A: Coral’s Coconut Espresso Martini will forever have my heart: Coconut vodka, fresh espresso, Kahlua, and Carolina Cream.
Q: What’s something every new Greenvillian oughta know about?
A: Where to find the best _______. (Here’s a hint for where to find the answers.)
Q: If you could only write about one GVL-specific topic for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Hands down, Greenville’s growing food and beverage scene. I love the energy + excitement that comes with the growth of local favorites (who else is excited for Clare’s Creamery’s new location at The Commons?) to the introduction of new concepts + SC-native restaurants that want a taste of our city, too.
Q: You can only choose one local restaurant menu to bring with you to a deserted island — which one is it + why?
A: Just one?! I couldn’t live without the spicy egg rolls, arugula salad with citrus vinaigrette, and California Burger from Universal Joint.
Meet Danielle 👀
Q: If you were taking someone on a tour around GVL, where are the three places you’re going?
A: Our first stop has to be the heart of our city, downtown near Falls Park. We’d then walk around Riverplace and stop by Camperdown so I can point out one of my favorite spots, the AC Hotel, where I said “I do” late last year. Then we’d bop over to Unity Park where we’d walk along the trail + grab a brew at Southernside. Finally, we’d go over to Gather for dinner.
Q: Describe GVL’s personality in three words.
A: Innovative, trendy + unique.
Q: What were the last 3 things you did downtown?
A:
- I went to the new Group Therapy Pub and Playground.
- I ate Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams with Jeni (which was cooler than the ice cream).
- I took a hard hat tour of the Grand Bohemian Lodge
Q: You’re taking someone on a date in Greenville. Where are you going?
A: We just spent a night out with dinner at The Anchorage where we split half a dozen small plates, hit Pangea for the Funky Friday brew + The Community Tap Trailside to bring home some beers, and finished off with a nightcap at Mr. Crisp, complete with fresh oysters and my favorite, the sticky maple toffee pudding for dessert.
Q: Hit us with your favorite piece of local trivia:
A: When Unity Park opened, we shared this piece of history + I still think it’s the coolest. In 1907, Boston architect Harlan Kelsey developed a master plan titled, “Beautifying and Improving Greenville S.C.” He recommended three parks be built along the Reedy River: Cleveland Park was the first (created in 1922), Falls Park was the second (completed in 2004) + Unity Park (opened in May) completing the full plan 115 years later.
